Colorado River Adobe Bricks Sedona Clay Bricks
What are Adobé Bricks?
Adobé, or sun-dried mud brick, is one of the oldest and most common building materials known. Adobé bricks consist of river bed soil, water and manure, all mixed by hand and then formed in wooden molds and set to be sun dried.
The adobé brick blend is prepared from Colorado Riverbed soil clays, steer manure as a binder and water; and is then mixed to a plastic consistency. To obtain the desired brick size, the moist adobé mixture is set in wooden forms, tamped and leveled, by hand. The adobé bricks are then leveled on ground for several days of air-sun drying.
The adobé bricks are then stacked and fired in a wood fired kiln. This baking results in a variety of earthen tone colors of the Colorado River Adobé Bricks.
Colorado River Adobé Bricks are made in a variety of shapes and sizes for the rustic Southwestern style. From El Chico Bricks to Pavers to Mission Tile ~ fences, decks, walls, fireplaces, walkways, landscaping, pools, patios, garden and roofs. Also, Custom sizes and shapes can be fabricated.
Unfired Colorado River Adobé Bricks are also available, usually brown-mud in color.
Rehabilitating a deteriorated adobé building is most successful when the techniques used for restoration are similar as possible to the original construction techniques used.
